How to cruise a small sailboat for atleast a week and enjoy it!

HullMaintenance

This year when I tried to haul Tevah out of the water my center board got caught on part of the structure of the cradle. As a result the cable that lifts it up into the keel , snapped and I have to do a dive to fold it back up and secure it with some lines. We did get the boat out of the water and it was lined up on the cradle so that the board could then be removed.

I used a 20 ton jack to lift the boat so I could reposition the cross pieces that the keel was resting on so that the centreboard slot was exposed. The next job was to locate the pivot pin and remove it. After finding it I was able to remove the epoxy plug and then drift it out. A bit of jiggling and the 200# board dropped down and was loaded into the vehicle. It will be filled, faired, painted and reinstalled with a new cable in the spring.

To prevent this from happening again I will be adding an indicator light to show if the board is down even a little.
